Adejumo Emmanuel - Boisala

Adejumo Emmanuel, popularly known as Boisala, is a distinguished Cultural Ambassador, Playwright, Director, Choreographer, Dancer, Actor, Poet, Singer, and Multi-Instrumentalist. He hails from a legacy of entertainment as the son of Nigeria’s legendary comedian, Hon. Moses Olaiya Adejumo MON, famously known as Baba Sala.

 

His artistic journey began in 1989 with OMITUN DANCE COMPANY, under the mentorship of Christopher Emmanuel (Abdul). He joined the National Troupe of Nigeria as Dancer in 2001. He served as Dance Captain from 2006 to 2011, and as Camp Commandant from 2006 to 2012.

He has played significant roles in numerous national cultural events, including the 8th All African Games (COJA) 2003, CHOGM 2003, National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST 1989–present), Abuja Carnival (2005–2010), Lagos Black Heritage Festival (2010), and multiple Presidential Inaugurations (Obasanjo, Jonathan, and Tinubu), among others.

 

As a playwright and director, Adejumo has written and directed impactful productions such as Osusu (commissioned for Eko NAFEST 2022 by Lagos State Government), KSA (for the Duke of Shomolu Foundation, 2024), Mutaje, Ikemba, and Banana Kingdom.

 

He has collaborated with renowned directors and choreographers including Claude Brumachon (France), Peter Badejo OBE (UK), Prof. Ahmed Yerima, Dr. Arnold Uduka, Prof. Ojo Bakare Rasaq, Prof. Endo Yasuko (Japan), Francis Angol (UK), and many others.

 

His directorial credits include full productions such as Ajagumale, Yemoja (by Prof. Ahmed Yerima), The Engagement (by Prof. Femi Osofisan), Obaluaye, Eniyan (by Wale Ogunyemi), Ovonramwen Nogbaisi, The Gods Are Not to Blame (by Ola Rotimi), and more. He has also served as assistant director on several major productions.

 

Adejumo’s performance career spans over 40 years and he has performed in France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Cuba, South Africa, India, Brazil, Oman, Egypt, Antigua, and many others across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

He is the Artistic Director/CEO of House of Dance Nigeria and Arts9ja.com Ltd, Lagos. He holds a degree in Theatre Arts and Music from Lagos State University and is a recipient of numerous national and international awards.
